Rescue Tubes on Unguarded Beaches

Members heard from our rescue tube team about the public-access flotation devices stationed at unguarded beaches along the North Shore. The tubes stand ready 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for anyone to grab in an emergency.
Rescue tubes let a bystander reach a swimmer in distress without becoming a victim themselves — a critical safeguard on a coastline with powerful surf and few lifeguards. Tubes statewide have been credited with hundreds of saves.
Volunteers keep the program running by inspecting, repairing, and replacing tubes throughout the year. To help maintain a tube station near you, reach out to hanaleirotary@gmail.com.
