Supporting Our North Shore Businesses: $2 Million in Recovery Grants Now Open

Island Updates & Ways to Help A truck damaged by Hurricane Lowell on Kauaʻi

Our North Shore runs on small businesses: the food trucks, surf shops, cafes and family-run services that give Hanalei, Princeville and Kīlauea their heart. Many of them took a hard hit from Hurricane Lowell, and in the spirit of Service Above Self, we want every one of them to know about a new source of help.

The Kauaʻi Hurricane Lowell Business Recovery Grant Program, a partnership between the Chamber of Commerce Hawaii and the State Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism, will distribute $2 million to non-agricultural businesses on the island. Grants are $5,000 for micro enterprises (under $250,000 in annual revenue) and $10,000 for small businesses ($250,000 to $5 million).

Who Qualifies

At least one owner must be a Hawaiʻi resident, the business must have been operating on Kauaʻi and registered with DCCA before September 7, and the grant must cover storm losses not already paid by insurance or other aid.

Apply online at kauaibusinessrecovery.org, or call 808-210-6839 for help, which is available in seven languages. Download the program one-pager (PDF).

If you know a North Shore business owner who is struggling, please pass this along. And if your business needs other support, our club's Disaster Relief program, coordinated by Mark Wolfendale, is here to help connect you with resources.
