Camp Sloggett, Home of Kauaʻi RYLA, Is on the Road to Recovery

Good news from the mountains: the YWCA of Kauaʻi says Camp Sloggett, its historic camp in Kōkeʻe and a gathering place for Kauaʻi since 1921, is on the road to recovery after Hurricane Lowell.

For Rotarians, this one is personal. Camp Sloggett is where the five Rotary clubs of Kauaʻi host RYLA, the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards: a weekend leadership camp for high school students, facilitated by Leadership Kauaʻi.

Why RYLA Matters

RYLA is an extraordinary two-day experience that helps young people build confidence, self-esteem and leadership skills they likely won't learn in a regular high school curriculum. It is Service Above Self in its most hopeful form: investing in the leaders our island will need for the next storm and every challenge after it.

Recovery won't be quick in Kōkeʻe. KIUC says full power restoration there is still several weeks away, and neighboring Camp Alan Faye, the Scout camp just down the road, has launched its own recovery fund.

To help, visit ywcakauai.org for updates, volunteer opportunities and ways to donate to Camp Sloggett, or support the Camp Alan Faye Recovery Fund. And through our own Vacation for Giving fundraiser, every dollar supports Hurricane Lowell relief across the North Shore.
